About Dazzled

Dazzled is an independent road-safety campaign about a problem more and more Australians are talking about: modern headlights so bright they blind the people driving the other way.

We're not anti-headlight. We're anti-dazzle.

Good headlights save lives. On an unlit country road you want to see further, not less. So this is not a campaign to make the roads darker. It is a campaign against the glare that modern lights throw into everyone else's eyes - the bad aim, the illegal aftermarket conversions, and rules written before LEDs existed. The technology to light the road fully while sparing oncoming drivers already exists; we want it used.

Why now

Australia has never studied headlight glare. There is no local survey and no crash dataset, and our own safety-rating body does not test how much light a car throws at others. The numbers in the news are borrowed from the UK and US - where governments have started to act. We think the same evidence applies here, and that the first step is to measure it.

What we're asking for

Four changes, each aimed at the body that can actually make it: enforce correct headlight aim, end the illegal retrofit trade, add a glare rating to ANCAP, and fund the Australian evidence while reforming the national Design Rules. The detail is on the home page.

Who's behind it

Dazzled is a new, independent campaign - not affiliated with any government body, political party, or manufacturer. It runs on the names of the people who sign it. If you work in road safety, optometry, or represent drivers, cyclists or pedestrians and want to help, get in touch.

Your privacy

Your details stay with the campaign. We never sell or share them, and we use no third-party trackers. See the privacy page for the detail.

What we publish

We review what people submit. We do not publish dazzle reports or comments that identify a private individual - no names, number plates, or home addresses. If you believe something on this site identifies you or is wrong, email us and we will take it down.
